CULTURE SHEET

 Hi Grade Two Families!

We're learning about different cultures in school, and we need your help! Your child took home an info sheet that they need to fill out about one of your family cultures. It contains different elements of culture such as language, food, clothing and more. They are tasked to ask you and your family members different questions to learn more about their culture, then document their findings onto the sheet. They are welcome to use different resources as well to find out more information. The students know that the bulk of the work needs to be done by them. If your family has more than one culture and your child would like to do more than one sheet, they are more than welcome to. They have to submit the first one in order to get the second one.  These sheets are due back in class on Monday, May 1. They will use these sheets to share with a small group what they have learned.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy sharing!

APRIL 10-14

Hi Grade Two Families,

As we enter into Holy Week, we celebrate Palm Sunday with joy as Jesus enters into Jerusalem even if we know that He is soon going to die on the cross. This past week, we've been looking at the Stations of the Cross. We talked about what happened at each station and how Jesus and the people around Him might've felt. The children were very interested in Jesus' journey with the cross, asking lots of questions and sharing their thoughts. We'll be continuing this discussion throughout Holy Week and even making a trip to the church to pray the Stations of the Cross together. Please start to send the Mite Boxes back throughout the week.

WEEK OF APRIL 3-7

Hi Grade Two Families,

It was great to hear all the fun and exciting things your families did over Spring Break. They sound like restful times indeed. It was great to be reunited again this week back, and we went straight into the swing of things. As the third term begins, the students will be learning about two-digit addition and subtraction, both with and without regrouping. Please practice with your child their basic addition and subtraction facts to prepare them for the thrilling world of two-digit adding and subtracting. You can certainly do this while enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

WEEK OF MARCH 27-31

Hi Grade Two Families!

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break! I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow and hear all about the exciting two weeks you had. The building of the new church is moving along so please make sure you read Mrs. Moorehead's email about the new traffic updates. Please be sure to communicate this information to any caregivers who drive your children to school. Please ensure your children know where you will meet them at the end of the day - either the pick-up lane, or in person in the covered area. We split off into two groups at the end of the day, so it is imperative that they know where to go. Thank you very much for your continued cooperation!

MARCH 6 - 13

Hello Grade Two Families,

We've had a very prayerful start to the season of Lent. The children thought about the ways in which they can spend the next 40 days through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This Lent, we have HoBo theme to guide us. HoBo stands for Homeward Bound; reminding us that we want to spend our time on Earth being like Jesus so we can one day join him in heaven. Over the next 40 days, your child might come home with an extra promise or sacrifice they offered to do during the season of Lent. As they complete it, it gets added to a Lenten chain we have in the classroom.

We wish Andre, Anselm, Brando, Colin, Gabriella, Kelly, Matthew, Tristan and Stella all the best as they represent St. Paul School at the Tri-School Speech Arts festival on Wednesday. Everyone did a great job sharing their poems and Bible readings over the past few weeks. Thank you to the parents for working with your child and the continued support!

FEBRUARY 27 -MARCH 3

Dear Grade Two Families,

CONGRATULATIONS!! You have completed the First Communion program! I'm sure you are immensely proud of your children as they prayerfully and beautifully received Jesus last Saturday. It was such a joyful and heart-warming moment to hear all their little voices sing "I Thank My God" and lift their voices up to God. I was certainly thinking of all of you during that meditation song. This would not have been possible without your support and cooperation, so thank you very much for all that you do!! :)

In many ways, it is very fitting that Lent comes right after our theme of Going Forth to Make the World a Better Place. The season of Lent calls us to think about the ways that we can be more like Jesus in our words and actions - the same things that the end of the Mass and the Communion program ask us to do! Students are encouraged to attend morning Mass at 8:15 am during Lent. They are invited to sit with the rest of the school in the front pews. I look forward to seeing you and your family at those Masses.

FEBRUARY 13-17

Hi Grade Two Families,

I hope you've been enjoying your extended long weekend with your families! It is wonderful to see the weather get into double digits with the sun shining! This week, we started reading this ginormous book full of why questions. I believe there are close to 1,111 questions! Each day, we will ask a different why question and the students will have the rest of the day to think about it, read about it in a book, or maybe even ask their knowledgeable parents. The next day, they will come back and share their different thoughts and ideas before reading what the book has to say. This week, we asked a lot of different questions about our fingers. We've gotten some really intellectual and creative guesses. We even did an experiment on what our life would be like without thumbs. Needless to say, trying to button up all the buttons in their uniform was difficult without thumbs. Stay tuned for more questions!
