Grade 2's blog

NOV. 28 - DEC. 2

Hi Grade 2 Families,

It was lovely to see all of you last Friday to talk about your wonderful children. It's hard to believe Term 1 is over and we're slowly gearing into 2017! We had a jam-packed week with different presentations and school events. A highlight this week was going to the church to take a look at the confessionals. Father Mark gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the rooms in the confessional and we got a great visual as to what it will look like on the actual day. I'm excited to share some of what we talked about, and the main take away for the students this Wednesday at our Parent Reconciliation Meeting. This week, we'll be learning lots about the Advent season and how we can prepare ourselves for the Lord.

NOV. 21-25

Hi Grade 2 Families!

This week we were able to take advantage of the dry weather, and we went on a nature walk. We picked up a few leaves for different leaf rubbing activities that we'll continue on this week. The class was quite diligent in looking for the leaves they had wanted! On Friday, we watched a Green Thumb Theatre show called "Land of Trash." Many of the children were fearful to live in a garbage-filled world, and rightfully so! It might be a shorter week, but it is action packed. We have a School Mass and an Advent Assembly this week and would love to see you there. Please keep in mind the date of November 30 for the Parent First Reconciliation meeting. An email will be sent this week with more details.

NOVEMBER 14-18

Hi Grade 2 Families,

This week we learned the seven friendship tips through a presentation by Friend 2 Friend. It has been wonderful to see the students not just practice these tips but really use it in their everyday interactions. We have also officially started our preparation for the Sacrament of Reconcilliation! We have been praying the Act of Contrition daily and have been talking about how the 10 Commandments help us be closer to Jesus. We'll continue our preparation for the rest of the year!

OCTOBER 31 - NOVEMBER 4

Hi Grade 2 Families,

Everyone was buzzing with excitement about Halloween the past few days! There was a lot of talk of candy, costumes and pumpkin carving, and they especially can't wait to share their costumes on Monday. Please read the email from Mrs. Moorehead to find out all you need to know for costumes and Halloween. Please note that we do have PE on Monday. While they do not have to wear their PE strip, their costume still needs to allow them to do some physical activitiy. If you are sending in Halloween treats, please make sure that they are individually wrapped, 31 pieces, and fish and nut free. The students will be given a larger bag for them to put all the treats inside.

Thank you very much for continuing to return and respond to the Friday Letters! Your children really enjoy writing to you all about what has happened during the week, and reading the notes you write. Since this letter is from them, they are the ones who decide what is written and how it is written. It is meant to be a way for them to communicate with you, and to express themselves by sharing their learning and school expriences with you. Please be assured that the conventions of writing are being taught and addressed at school through others activities and menthods, but not through the Friday Letters. Because Halloween is on Monday, the Friday Letters can be returned on Tuessday. Thank you for your continued support!

OCTOBER 24 - 28

Hi Grade 2 Families,

This week we had mini-science experiments involving matter. The class has become very familiar with the states of matter and were great at making predictions, hypothesizing and asking questions. In the upcoming weeks, we'll continue to do more experiments that focus on both physical and chemical changes. There will be breaking, mixing and maybe even trying to see how Jesus performed miracles in these experiments.  We'll make sure you read all about them in the Friday Letters.

This Friday, Primary Choir starts in the Music Room from 12:15 - 12:45. Considering how much the Grade Two class loves to sing, it would be great to see them there. Please note, however, that it is not mandatory.

OCTOBER 17-21

 Hi Grade 2 Families,

It sure is getting colder out there! As per Mrs. Moorehead's note, please make sure your child comes to school with a jacket every day. We are finishing up with patterns, and will begin our new math section on numbers to 100. If you are able to, please practice skip counting with your child. We will also be starting our bigger theme: I can make a difference. The Grade 2 students have already begun reflecting upon the different parts that make up who they are. They are quite the insightful group!
