Dear Grade Four Families,

I hope you've enjoyed the long weekend.  The warm weather and the sunny days bring us closer to the reality that summer is just around the corner.  I can't believe that there's only 6 more weeks of school!  We still have a bit to do, so these last few weeks will still keep us busy!

  • May 31 - May IRP cancelled!  We will focus on our novel study "Because of Winn-Dixie"
  • June 2 - Planning day (no school)
  • June 7 - CISVA track meet for those who qualify (regular day of school for the rest of the students)
  • June 9 - field trip to Fort Langley (students must be in school and ready to board the bus by 8:15am)

May 15 - 19

Dear Grade Four Families,

I'm sorry I wasn't able to blog last weekend.  It was a busy time for my family as my youngest sibling, Julie Ann, got married to Patrick Guevara (Miss Guevara's older brother) last Saturday.  We also had 35 family members fly in for the special day from the Philippines, California, and New Jersey.  It was a wonderful time and it was nice to catch up with my many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

We also had lots of fun in class this week.  We celebrated Fr. Mark's birthday on Thursday.  We gave him a special card, a birthday blessing, and sang to him with joy and enthusiasm.  I think he really enjoyed it!  On Friday, we spent our PE time playing outside since Mr. Kelly was sick.  I'm so glad I was able to capture some awesome pictures of the students.  You can find it posted on our Class Dojo.  Finally, we prepared something special for Mother's Day.  Moms, I hope you really enjoy your present.

Dear Grade Four Families,

What! It's May already??? Oh my...only 2 more months of Grade Four.  It seems like we just started a little while ago.  Thank you to all the students for their participation in track and field and remembering to bring their gym strip and complete uniform to school this week.  Looks like we're going to have another fun day at Minoru on Tuesday.  Hopefully the weather is just as nice as it was last Friday.

Dear Grade Four Families,

It was wonderful to see you during the Student-Led Conference.  I hope you enjoyed looking at all the wonderful things your child has been doing in Grade Four.  They've all worked so hard in class, and I hope you can see how much your child has accomplished so far.

Track practice is in full swing this week.  Please refer to the track schedule that was sent home last week (or attachment on the PE/Music blog)

April 17 - 21

Dear Grade Four Families,

Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you enjoyed the four day long weekend with your families and friends.  Track and Field will begin tomorrow, and it's going to be a busy time for all the students for the next few weeks.  Please make sure that your child wears his/her gym strip everyday to school so they don't miss out on any practices.  Check Mr. Kelly's PE blog to see this week's schedule for practices.  Permission forms must be handed in by tomorrow, otherwise, your child will not be allowed to participate in the practices.  The schedule of practices also went home with your child on Thursday.  Please refer to it and make sure your child knows when he/she has a practice to attend.  Our first track meet will be on Friday, April 28 at Minoru with St. Joseph the Worker school.

April 10 - 14

Dear Grade Four Families,

As we enter this Sacred Triduum, may we remember God's love for us and the ultimate sacrifice He made for us to free us of our sins.  This past Friday, the children went to confession and I pray that they will try to always make good choices and keep their hearts clean.  I also want to thank all the students and parents who were able to come to the morning masses this past week.  The students did an amazing job with their parts.

Please note that Morning Lenten Masses end this Wednesday.  There is no morning mass on Holy Thursday.

Dear Grade Four Families,

I can't believe it's April already!!!  I hope you all had an enjoyable spring break.  After speaking to the students, it looked like many of you took advantage of the 2 weeks off to travel and get away from the cold and rain. Good for you!  Thank goodness it's finally feeling like spring!

The Grade Four class will be leading the Lenten Morning masses this week.  I would like to encourage as many students to come out and sit with me in the front (centre left pews in front of the lectern).  Students who have a part for mass should be in the church by 8:10am.  Parents, thank you for getting your child to mass early this week!

Dear Grade Four Families,

Thank you to all the students who participated in Speech Arts this past Tuesday.  We want to congratulate and wish Bianca, Morgan, Adrian, and Alvin the best of luck as they represent our school at the Tri-School Speech Arts Festival at Sacred Heart School this coming Thursday.

I also want to thank all the students who led the Ash Wednesday Mass.  It was a challenge not having the microphones, but the children did an amazing job! Thank you for sharing your talents!

Dear Grade Four Families,

This week, your child received a New Testament bible.  We spent some time learning how to properly use it, learned the names of the different books by singing a funny song, and learned how to find different verses.  We are going to focus on Jesus' parables and reflect on the lessons from these stories.  On Wednesday, we will wear pink for anti-bullying day and spend some time learning about this problem and finding ways or strategies to deal with it for ourselves and for our friends.
