Grade 4's blog

Week of Oct. 24-28

Hello Grade 4 Families,

We have 2 new pets in the classroom, thanks to Alvin and his family.  He brought in 2 baby lobsters, which he named "Lightning Bolt" and "Slash."  The kids enjoy looking at our pets throughout the day, and they have been a great addition to the Grade Four family.

In Social Studies, we had a lively discussion about stereotypes and racism this past week. Thank you for allowing your children to find stereotypes on TV.  (Some children thanked me for giving them homework, while some exclaimed, "This is the best homework ever!" Their enthusiasm brings me so much joy! Haha) During class, Martin Luther King's name was mentioned during our discussion, and so the children wanted to learn more about him.  Thus, we continued our learning about him and this topic in our Language Arts class. This is the beauty of the new curriculum... being able to integrate different subjects together, and allowing the kids to steer their learning towards topics that interests them.

In Science, we are continuing to learn about animals in their environment.  Your child is currently researching about a BC animal of their choice. (You can ask your child what he/she has chosen). They are doing the research in class with the use of computers.  During the research, they have to describe their animal, find 3 structural adaptations, 3 behavioural adaptations and find interesting facts about the animal.  Once they write their paragraphs in class, you can assist them at home by proofreading and editing their paragraphs.

Student in the Spotlight Letter

Hello Grade 4 Students,

Now that we've started the Student in the Spotlight presentations, here's the rubric we went over in class for the letters you'll be writing for each of your classmates.

This is a great time to compliment each of your classmates on their strenghts and talents.  It's also a great time to thank them if they've been helpful to you in anyway.

I know you will look forward to the letters you'll be receiving from all your classmates, so please take the time to make each letter you write a sincere and special one for them too.  It'll be a special keepsake of your Grade 4 year together.

I'm looking forward to seeing your great letters for Clint on Tuesday!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I'm thankful for each and everyone one of you!  You're all very special to me!

From your teacher,

Mrs. Imoo

Week of Sept. 12 - 16, 2016

Hello Grade 4 Families,

It was a wonderful week to reconnect with the students again!  I'm so pleased with how the flexible seating is working out in class.  The students enjoy the freedom of choosing a spot that best suits their learning style, and I like that they get to work with different classmates all the time.  The round tables allow the students to collaborate, work together, and help each other.  Next week, the students will also have more responsibilities in class.  They've all have a classroom job for the week, so ask your child what they are responsible for!

Here are the reminders for the week:

Monday:

  • PE class with Mr. Kelly
  • Cross-Country forms due today
    • practice after school from 3:00-3:45pm
    • If practice ever needs to be cancelled due to rain, Mr. Kelly will post that information on the PE and Music blog by 12noon for that day...please check the blog regularly
  • Birthday picture due today

Tuesday:

  • PE class with Miss Tang
  • Cross-country practice from 3:00-3:45pm

Wednesday:

  • No PE today
  • Dismissal at 2pm

Thursday:

  • PE class with Miss Tang

Friday:

  • Assembly by Gr. 6 (everyone is welcome)
  • no PE class today

Walkathon pledge sheets went home yesterday.  Please have your child start calling their relatives and family friends for their support!

Enjoy the weekend!

Mrs. Imoo

Oops!  If some of you read my blog earlier, I wrote "Hello Grade 2 Families"...it's taking me a while to adjust!  Sorry!  (Thanks to Mrs. Jeffrey for pointing this out.  I must have called the kids "Grade 2" at least 10 times this past week.  You should hear the kids' reactions!!!  Hahaha).

Welcome to Grade FOUR

Dear Grade Four Families,

I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer!  I'm looking forward to seeing the students tomorrow at 8:45am!  I pray that this year is filled with new adventures, new friendships, and new experiences.  With the new BC curriculum in full implementation this year, there will be new changes in the way students learn.  Let's work together to make this a successful year for all of us!

Top 5 reasons why tomorrow will be an exciting day:

  1. The students are coming upstairs to the intermediate grades
  2. They will be the "big buddies" for the first time
  3. Our classroom is very different....I'll get them to tell you all about it when they get home
  4. They can reconnect with their friends
  5. You get to send them back to school...FREEDOM for you again (Haha)

Here are the reminders for the week:

Tuesday:

  • 8:45am - 12 noon
  • Bring all school supplies if you didn't order from EduPac
  • Bring a pocket snack for recess
  • ALL STUDENTS need to bring a pencil box or pouch (it was not included in the basic package with EduPac)
  • Homework: label all markers, pens, and pencil crayons with initials or names

Wednesday:

  • Dismissal at 2pm

Thursday:

  • students will meet their "little buddies"
  • regular day...dismissal at 3pm

Friday:

  • Walkathon assembly at 9am...everyone is welcome to attend
  • regular day...dismissal at 3pm

P.E.

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays
    • wear gym strip under uniform
    • bring gym shoes in a gym bag to keep in the locker for the school year

Mr. Kelly will start teaching P.E. sometime this week, but he's still finalizing the plans.  I will inform the students when they will have P.E. once I know, or check the PE blog.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please make an appointment to see me or email me at gimoo@stpaulschool.ca

See you bright and early tomorrow!

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Imoo
