Kindergarten's blog

Week of March 6 - 10

Hi Kindergarten Families,

This week the kinders continued to learn about "Where We Live" for our Social Studies unit. They identified that they live in the continent of North America, the country of Canada and the province of British Columbia! And in Religion, we started to learn the "Hail Mary" prayer with actions.

This week was also the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent. Starting with Ash Wednesday the children prepared themselves in class for Lent by learning about Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. On Thursday, Father Mark came for a visit. He brought the Lent Mite Boxes and talked more about Lent and in particular, Almsgiving. With their buddies on Friday, they reflected on ways to be more like Jesus though these three pillars of Lent. It was wonderful to see some of the children attend Morning Lenten Mass. We are all encouraged to attend 8:15 am Morning Mass for the season of Lent!

Reminder, during Lent there will be no Friday morning assemblies.

This week is last week before Spring Break! We hope you have a restful and exciting break! School will be closed March 13th-24th and our first day back is March 27th!

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27 - MARCH 3

Hi Kindergarten Families,

Kindergarten had a wonderful week last week. On Wednesday, we celebrated Pink Day for "Anti-Bullying." The children came to school dress in link an we read the book "Recess Queen" by Alexis O'Neill. Instead of focusing on "bullying," Kindergarten focused on how we can be a good recess friend. The children brainstormed wonderful ways including playing nicely with friends, helping clean up in the classroom, asking new friends to play, keeping hands to themselves, using nice words with our friend, among many others. On Thursday, the children enjoyed a fieldtrip to the Richmond Library and Richmond Museum. We had a tour around the library, and we even got to use the new machine to check a library back in! At the Museum, we learned about many different cultures winter celebrations! This went really nicely with our social studies unit on family traditions and celebrations. A special thank you to all parents and grandparents that made this fieldtrip possible by driving!

This week we begin the wonderful liturgical season of Lent. Starting Wednesday, and continuing for 40 days, the children prepare themselves in class for Lent by learning about Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. During Lent we work towards becoming more like Jesus in our actions and our words. Children are encouraged to attending Morning Lenten Masses at 8:15 am beginning on Thursday, March 2nd and continuing throughout the season of Lent. During Lent there will be no Friday morning assemblies.

We hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day! The children had a very exciting week! On Tuesday, we celebrated Valentine's Day in our pink, red and white dress down; making Valentine chains and cards. On Wednesday, Mrs. Headley came for a visit to help with our Community Helpers unit. She taught us all about how to keep our teeth clean and healthy, the children even went home with a new toothbrush! Thursday, we celebrated the 100th day of school! The kinders enjoyed creating their 100 fruit loops necklaces and 100 Day Crowns, and loved presenting their projects to one another! Thank you parents, in supporting your children with their 100 Day projects! They all looked great! And on Friday, we had our first visit with Mrs. Brown's dog, Milo! The kinders were thrilled to have Milo come! They were very inquistive and approached Milo with ease and enthusiasm!

Hi Kinder Families,

Last week, the children enjoyed their first experience at the Scholastic Book Fair! One lucky student even got to go home with a free book from a draw!
