Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Thank you to all the families for all of the Created by Children Christmas orders. All money raised will go to Catholic Charities. This week we look forward to reflecting on what Peace looks and feels like in our classroom. We have our school Remembrance Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10th followed by no school on Friday, November 11th.

The children did an excellent job leading assembly for the school with their buddies! Thank you to the parents who came for assembly! They loved singing the songs for you! Week of October 24 -28

The children had an eventful week last week! We got to celebrate Mass with the whole school on Wednesday and went on our first field trip to the Pumpkin Patch on Thursday! We are incredibly grateful to all the support you have given us! Special thanks to our parent volunteers who drove and accompanied us to the Pumpkin Patch! The munchkins had a wonderful time! And hopefully they have had a chance to tell you about the pumpkin science they did with their buddies on Friday!

Hello Kindergarten Families,

We hope your children were able to talk to you about our fun filled week last week! We used our senses to go on a nature walk and focused on what we could hear! The children were great listeners and worked hard to create a class book on their experience! This will be circulating to all families, so you can enjoy it as much as we did! Please ensure your child has rainboots and a raincoat (no umbrellas), as it looks like it will be raining. There will be a regular dismissal at 3PM.
  6. Scholastic- September book order should arrive within the next two weeks. The next book order will be in November.

Week of October 3 - 7

Hello Kindergarten Families,

We had a great week last week! On Tuesday, we attended our first school Mass. They were able to be reverend throughout Mass and participated in the prayers and songs! On Wednesday, the children had their first fire drill with all 31 friends! They did a wonderful job with the drill and we feel they are prepared for a real emergency. Thank you for all the support you to continue to give to the class and the school! A special thank you goes out to the many parents that were able to join us for a very successful Walk-a-thon! The children, albeit tired at the end, had a wonderful time walking with you and raising money for our school! 

 

We're looking forward to another fantastic week and the start of a new month!

Friendly Reminders

  4. Photo Day - This Tuesday. Please ensure your child comes in complete uniform this day for their photo. 
  5. Student of the Week - Please take the time to document your child's week by taking pictures (swimming/piano/violin/karate lessons, playing games/toys at home, family outings, etc) and helping them as much as needed with their writing. Your child will have two activities throughout the week: 
    •   Poster: please help your child fill out their "All About Me" poster. This includes answersing some questions and printing out some pictures so that we can get to know your child
    •    Fin: Each child has 1 week to show their classmate what a typical week looks like in their home. (Sample book from last year will be sent home for reference)
  6. Show & Tell - Please help your child pick an item within our theme from home, ensure they are sending the item on their specified day, and help them practice telling 3 hints about their Show & Tell (Example- Fin Stuffed animal is 1) black 2) a whale 3) the Canuck's mascot)

WALKATHON 2016

Hi Kindergarten families,

Friday is the day--Walkathon is here! 

An outline of our day (approximate times):

8:45 - regulat start time children will come to the classroom for attendance and then we will head to the Gym for an assembly

8:55 - Gym Assembly. We will head to the gym for a short assembly. Parents are welcome to come to the gym to join the assembly. 

9:15 - We will head back to the classroom to put our jackets on and get ready to walk. Parent volunteers may join us in the classroom while we wait to leave

9:20 - We will be called to leave. Parent volunteers will walk with their children, and a select group of kids 

10:35 - Arrive at Garden City Park for a snack and water. Weather permitting play at the park for a little. Leave to walk back to school

11:30- Arrive back at St. Paul School. Children with parent volunteers may leave after attendance is taken in class with Miss C. & Miss G. children staying will have a snack and play in the classroom until dismissal. 

1:00 - Dismissal. 

Please note:

  1. Children DO NOT have to be in uniform. Please dress according to the weather. If it is raining, please send your child in rainboots and a raincoat.
  2. If your child is staying until 1:00 dismissal, please send a snack (to be left in the classroom) to have when we arrive back at school.
  3. Our 5 km route: North on St. Alban's (west sidewalk), East on Blundell (north sidewalk), North on Heather (west sidewalk). Cross Granville and Arrive at Garden City Park
  4. Children will not be bringing anything with them. They may bring their school backpacks, however they will be staying in the classroom.
  5. You can send in pledge forms and donations as soon as you can! Lots of time to collect, and the primary class with the most $$ receives a PIZZA PARTY! 
  6. If you are a parent volunteer, please arrive at 8:45 with your children. If you didn't sign up, but would still like to join, please come! The more the merrier! 
  7. Scholastic Book Order is also due this Friday; please send them in if you would like to order.

Hi Kindergarten Families,

It was such a pleasure to meet all of you at Meet the Teacher Night. Thank you for taking the time to come meet our school staff, PEC, and our classroom! We had a very fun filled start to FULL DAY kindergarten last week. Hopefully your child enjoyed their Gingerbread cookie, and were able to tell you all about our exciting adventure around the school! A class book will begin circulating next week, so that you can enjoy the adventure as well! The children are looking forward to Walk-a-thon, this coming Friday!

 Hello Kindergarten families,

 
The children are continuing to settle in nicely into the routines of the classroom, and we are looking forward to beginning full day this coming Wednesday, September 21! Thank you to all parents for organizing schedules around gradual entry. Your support has been greatly appreciated!

PE & Music

Mr. Kelly is the PE & music specialist teacher, and the children have PE scheduled every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and Music scheduled every Thursday. In Kindergarten, they only need their runners so please be sure that their gym bags have been labelled and returned with their runners. 

 

Library

Mrs. Koop is the Library specialist teacher. The children will have library every Monday. 

 

French

Madame Caprilli is the French specialist teacher. The children will have French every Monday.

 

Buddies

Our buddy class is Grade 6. The children have been spending their recess getting to know and playing with their buddies. Regular buddy time is every Friday.

Hi Kindergarten Families,

 

What a wonderful first week of Kindergarten! It has been such a blessing getting to know your children this week. In the first week of Gradual Entry, the children met their new friends, explored their new classroom, met their Grade 6 buddies and learned how to play safely on the Primary Playground! We look forward to the second week of Gradual Entry together, where the children will get to know their friends better, and begin to familiarize themselves with the classroom and school routines. On Monday, we have our first PE class! Please be sure to send your child's runners to school on Monday!

Homework for this week (All due by Friday, September 16th):

  1. Proper Backpack- no "rolly" backpacks, please!
  2. Homework Folder (to transport communication & home reading folders)
  3. Lunch bag (with nutritious snack)
  4. Water Bottle
  5. Rain Boots (to stay at school)
  6. Runners (to stay at school)
  7. Gym Bag (decorated with child's name- to stay at school)
  8. Extra change of clothes (to stay at school)
  9. 16" x 20" white canvas (found at Dollarama or Michels)
  10. 4" x 6" family photo in a picture frame (for our community building wall)
  11. Headphones in a labelled, freezer ziplock bag (for listening center)
  12. Beach Towel in Edupack reusable bag (for quiet time- bag was sent home on the first day of school)
  13. A picture of your child (for the school birthday board)

*Samples of all the items are available in the Kindergarten classroom if you have any questions. Please have all items LABELLED and at school by Friday, September 16th.
