Week of March 6 - 10

Hi Kindergarten Families,

This week the kinders continued to learn about "Where We Live" for our Social Studies unit. They identified that they live in the continent of North America, the country of Canada and the province of British Columbia! And in Religion, we started to learn the "Hail Mary" prayer with actions.

This week was also the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent. Starting with Ash Wednesday the children prepared themselves in class for Lent by learning about Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. On Thursday, Father Mark came for a visit. He brought the Lent Mite Boxes and talked more about Lent and in particular, Almsgiving. With their buddies on Friday, they reflected on ways to be more like Jesus though these three pillars of Lent. It was wonderful to see some of the children attend Morning Lenten Mass. We are all encouraged to attend 8:15 am Morning Mass for the season of Lent!

Reminder, during Lent there will be no Friday morning assemblies.

This week is last week before Spring Break! We hope you have a restful and exciting break! School will be closed March 13th-24th and our first day back is March 27th!

Mass

  • Reminder Lenten morning masses are @ 8:15 am
  • We gather as a school community to prepare our hearts and our minds for the Lenten season leading to Easter
  • If your child is able to join us, they may sit at the front of the church with the rest of the students attending mass (they do not sit by grade, but rather all students sit together)
  • Children are encouraged to make as many Lenten morning masses as possible.

Lenten Journey

  • As a family, you are welcome to join us on our 40-day Lenten Journey
  • The Lenten Journey is tracked by a Lenten Road Map that will be sent home with the children on Wednesday
  • We invite you to post the map somewhere visible at home and colour one square everyday of Lent
  • This is a great visual that will help the children understand the meaning and symbols of the Lenten season

Lent Mite Boxes

  • We are invited to participate in Almsgiving this Lent.
  • Father Mark delivered the Lent Mite Boxes on Thursday. We are encouraged to put in any change that we have in the boxes to help support the Seminarians in our Diocese. The boxes have been put in your child's homework folder, along with a trading card with one of the Seminarians. You are encouraged to pray for them!
