Week of April 3 - 7

 Hello Grade One Families!

We have come to the month of April and the weather is finally cooperating so the blossoms are out and the birds are singing!

This month we will be exploring units on Canadian money (coins), how the community of Richmond has changed over time, properties of matter, and poetry. Our Lenten focus for this week is forgiveness and we continue to encourage everyone to join us for daily Mass at 8:15am.

During Art time on Friday, the students were introduced to Coast Salish pictures of animals and worked hard to reproduce some of the beautiful drawings. Each animal has a special meaning to the Coast Salish people and the students chose some of the animals as our class mascots for the third term. They chose six, including the hummingbird for friendship and joy, the beaver for being hard-working and industrious, and  the turtle for patience.

Hopefully you all received the field trip permission form for our visit to the Britannia Shipyards in Steveston. If you are volunteering to drive to the field trip, please ensure that Mrs. Ong has a copy of your driver's licence and insurance forms (including one million liability insurance). Thank-you!
