Week of May 8 - 12

  Hello Grade One Families!

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend! Looking at my teaching plans for the year, I realized that we have come to the last units of study for Grade One ~ where did the time go?!? This week we will begin a math unit encompassing measurement and geometry. We will explore non-standard units of measurement, and the fact that objects and shapes have attributes that can be used to identify them. The students will also begin exploring animals and natural features of our local environment. In phonics and spelling we are currently learning about the use of the "silent e" and will soon move on to contractions and homophones. I am looking forward to helping the students share their imaginations by writing fictional stories and sharing puppet shows. It should be a very interesting last two months of school!
