WEEK OF NOVEMBER 27 - DECEMBER 1

Hi Grade Two Families!

All week long we have been talking about Thomas, the school's sponsor child gearing up for the dress down day on Friday. We read about his family, where he lives, where he goes to school, and then we asked a lot of really good questions about him and what it means to be poor. We also talked about ways we can help the poor and how we can serve them. We decided as a class we can pray for them and donate money to them. To add to the $2 each child brought it, each pompom the class earned, as part of our positive reinforcement, counted as an extra dollar to give to Thomas. They worked really hard by waiting patiently, playing cooperatively, helping each other out and finishing their work on time. They knew that they weren't just earning the pompoms for themselves, but for someone else. By Friday, the class had earned 42 pompoms which gave them $42! They were very excited to find out that they raised a total of $104 for Thomas. We'll be continuing the giving spirit as we'll be focusing on generosity throughout December and the Advent season.

Our journey with grit continued this week as the children were challenged with building a marble run using the toilet paper rolls. You may have seen some of them come home. They needed to take what they know about force and motion to make the marble go down as slowly as possible. It took some toilet paper rolls, a lot of tape, and definitely some grit. Even though it was difficult at first, the class really pulled through and tried their best. Till the next challenge!
