gr. 5, 6, & 7’s instrument practice logs sent home today

Hello,

Gr. 5’s, 6’s, and 7’s instrument practice logs have been sent home today. I would like to just copy and paste the instruction again for easy viewing for parents below in quotation marks.

“Daily practice is essential to making rapid progress on a musical instrument. 5 minutes of daily practice or 10 minutes of practice every other day is recommended for a total of 30 minutes per week. There may be days when it is not possible to practice due to family or other commitments; however, some extra time on other days will compensate for this. Try not to make up your practice time in one day for the whole week’s missed practice unless there was an extenuating circumstance. The point is to practice daily.

Instructions:      1.Write down the minutes in letters (not in Arabic numbers) of practice on the appropriate space in ink.

  1. 2. Ask your parent to sign it in the space provided every Saturday.
  2. 3. Give this form to Mr. Yang at the first music class of each month.

The practice portion will worth one-third of your mark, while the tests will worth another one-third and your class participation, including bringing your recorder and the book, counts for the other one-third of your mark. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I may not be able to help you too much individually during class time, but I will make myself available before school(Tuesdays and Thursdays), during lunch, and after school (Tuesdays).

Mr. Yang”

Their practice begins with today’s date (Jan. 15th). They have not yet learned much in playing, as I was setting up the expectation for instrument playing. If your child does not know what/how to practice, just write down “not ready,” and I will excuse him/her today and tomorrow’s practice. If your family is going on a vacation, just write “vacation” on those days; if your child is sick, just write “sick” on those days and I will excuse him/her from practicing. Generally, students are expected to practice exercises from their band book that we covered in class plus three more which we will go over in the next class. However, if they would like to practice more, they are encouraged to keep on going in the book in his/her own pace for a faster advancement. They can also practice any musical pieces that are not in their band book for pleasure, and count towards their practice time. They can find all the fingerings on the inside of the back cover of their book. Please e-mail me at myang@stpaulschool.ca for any questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Mr. Yang
