In light of the recent news regarding the discovery of 215 children buried at the Kamloops Residential School, we want to express our collective sense of deep sadness and shock. At 2:15 pm yesterday, all CISVA schools honoured the memory of these children with 2 minutes of silence.
To honour the children, and in recognition of the continued struggles that have resulted from the residential school system for our First Nations communities, we will be having a dress down day on Thursday. Students are invited to come out of uniform wearing orange.
Please keep these children, their surviving friends and family members, and the First Nations communities across our land in your prayers as we reflect and move towards healing and reconciliation. Taking time to reflect on the need for healing in our communities in prayer can be a positive means of taking action and supporting our First Nations brothers, sisters, and cousins, as well as the many non-Indigenous people in our communities who work for justice and peace.
Yours in faith,
Maureen Moorehead
