Last night I had the privilege of attending the Archbishop’s Dinner in downtown Vancouver. The evening is an annual fundraiser, with this year’s funds going towards supporting Catholic Charities. The event has become a way for the faithful of Vancouver to gather and hear updates from Archbishop Miller regarding the highlights and challenges of the past year, and plans for the coming year. It was inspiring to hear of the renewed vision for programs such as The Door is Open and the Men’s Shelter, and to have guests at the dinner who have been the recipients of these life-changing support services. It was also a lovely opportunity to view the Archdiocese beyond the familiarity of CISVA, and witness its commitment to addressing the explosion of need for marginalized people within the city of Vancouver over the last few years.
When you forget yourself and think of others, this is love! And with the washing of the feet, the Lord teaches us to be servants, and above all, servants as He was a servant to us, for every one of us. – Pope Francis
