Grade 1

May 13-17

Hello Grade One Families,

This week is the final week of our The Reading Longer Words Unit, which was the students’ first introduction to words with more than one syllable. The lessons addressed word endings, open and closed syllables, and compound words. The kids did a great job! Next week we will be moving onto the next unit Ending Spelling Patterns Unit which introduces students to spelling patterns that only occur at the end of words, such as, -tch, -dge, or -le. The lessons in this unit are designed to develop students’ skills for reading and spelling with words that contain these specific spelling patterns.

We have also completed our unit on Brave Choices in Open Parachute. We will begin our final unit in class together. Please continue to work through the home units to complement what the children are learning about in class.

This week we met our Seminarian, Peter, who will be at St. Paul Parish throughout the summer.  The students enjoyed listening and learning more about him.

Ms. Griffin has sent out an email about our food drive for Like 15 House. Grade 1 has been asked to bring 1 Pasta (various noodle shapes accepted) 454 g box by Friday, May 24th.

Friendly reminder that there will be no school on Friday, May 17 and Monday, May 20. We wish everyone a wonderful Victoria Day Long Weekend!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL OUR WONDERFUL MOTHERS IN OUR ST. PAUL COMMUNITY!! We hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family.
