Hi Everyone!
I’m excited to share with you the details of our Garry Point Park Endurance Challenge coming up on Friday October 8, 2021 with St. Joseph the Worker School.
The number one priority in planning this event is the health and safety of both of our respective school communities. The safety guidelines below were instrumental in being able to secure a permit from the City of Richmond to hold the event.
We have been preparing for the Endurance Challenge in PE classes and this event will be similar to our St. Paul/St. Joseph the Worker track meet. All students in Gr. 2-7 are expected to participate as part of our regular PE programming for the day. All participants will wear their St. Paul’s gym strip and running shoes to compete.
The event itself will look quite different than it has in years past. As opposed to a race, this year’s event is an endurance challenge whereby each class will spend 25 minutes on the course trying to complete as many laps as possible using a combination of running, jogging, and walking. At the 25 minute mark a signal will be given and students will have 5 minutes to complete their final lap and clear the course. A record will be kept of the total laps completed by each grade making this a true team event.
Each school will have a separate start and finish area and we ask that students and parents respect this before, during, and after the event. Only one class per school will be competing at the event at a given time and we also ask students and parents leave the park as soon as their event is finished. We must do everything we can to keep the number of people at the park to a minimum. Please refer the schedule listed below.
Grade: | Leaving St. Paul | Event time | Dismissal from Garry Pt. |
7 | 10:45 am | 11:30 am | 2:45 pm |
6 | 11:15 am | 12:00 pm | 12:30 pm |
5 | 11:45 am | 12:30 pm | 1:00 pm |
4 | 12:15 pm | 1:00 pm | 1:30 pm |
3 | 12:45 pm | 1:30 pm | 2:00 pm |
2 | 1:15 pm | 2:00 pm | 2:30 pm |
Families with multiple children in Gr. 2-7 may pick-up all their runners at the earliest departure time. (i.e. a family with students in Gr. 6 & 3 would take both of their children from St. Paul’s @ 11:15 am). Students must check-in and check-out with their classroom teacher at Garry Pt Park. Families with students in Gr. 1 and Kindergarten may return to the school to pick-up their younger siblings upon completion of the run and dismissal from Garry Pt. For families with children only in Gr. 1 or Kindergarten, the regular 3:00 pm dismissal time will be in effect.
There will be no food or beverages provided at this year’s event. Students will be required to bring adequate food, snacks, and water and plan their eating accordingly with respect to their event time.
We look forward to a great day of competition and camaraderie! Please direct any questions to me at gkelly@stpaulschool.ca
Thanks,
Mr. K
