The Lenten Season is upon us, a time when we start to prepare for Easter, beginning with Ash Wednesday yesterday. During Lent we observe a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, and spiritual discipline. Making God the centre of our life is what the Lenten Season is all about, and when we do this, then we are ready to do His work here on earth. It was wonderful this morning to see so many students join us for our first day of Lenten morning Mass. As a parent of three children myself, I know what it takes to get the family out the door on time in the morning. Mine are young adults now, but those memories of getting them all out the door to work with me at Sacred Heart School are not too far off. The wonderful showing of students this morning tells me that St. Paul’s is a community whose spirituality is of vital importance, and whose parents can pride themselves in making their family faith life a priority.
The staff of St. Paul School looks forward to making this Lenten journey with your children. We are supported by a great community, and we must teach our children to live their lives in the footsteps of Jesus – to be humble, to feed the poor, clothe the naked, help the sick. Lent is not as much about “giving up”, but about “giving”.
Yours in faith,
Maureen Moorehead.
